Do you always ask for consent? I would hope that’s a yes when it comes to sexy time, but I’m actually talking about taking pictures and videos. Before you open the camera do you ask each person if they’re cool with it? Maybe it’s your friends, co-workers, kids, partner or that person you can clearly see in the background. Do you ask for approval before you post others on social media? Should you?
These are all questions I’ve been mulling since seeing this sign in one of Los Angeles’ hottest bakery/deli/restaurants, Gjusta. The kicker comes in the last two lines.
While it’s not unusual for private members clubs to prohibit photography, and in the 2010s a slew of elite restaurants and super chefs begged patrons to stop photographing their food, but ‘bans’ largely faded as social media embedded itself deep into our lives and many restaurant owners - like Big Mamma Group - realised that making a spot Instagrammable was an actual business model.
