The sixth series of The Kardashians launched last week. Have you heard a single person talk about it? Seen a clip? A meme? Read a hot take? If your answer is yes I will comp you a paid subscription because I live online and it’s sounded like crickets.

Hulu, the streamer which hosts it in the States, announced it was the number one title on the platform, but beyond its core fans it’s difficult to argue that the scripted reality format, which made the Kar-Jenners global megastars, is landing like it once did. And it seems that’s a fair assessment of the family too.

Accusations of “obscene privilege”, Kim’s social accounts targeted by an ‘ignore her’ campaign and a push to boycott her brand Skims have all bubbled in the last few months. Their once envied super power of using controversy to further their fame appears to be fading. Attention is more valuable than ever but the family seem unable, or unwilling, to wield it like they once did.
