It’s been a minute since we last dived into the words that are having a moment and so today you’re getting a lil’ language special.
We’re going to take a look at the phrases that have tweens, teens and the chronically online in a chokehold, and dig into where the latest slang and algospeak comes from.
I must warn you that some of the new lingo is icky, and like so much of online life is riven with misogyny, (thanks 4Chan), but knowledge is power, so let’s get into it…
Hot right now
Huzz, bruzz and gruzz… All three words are blowing up with tweens after being popularised by live streamers. Huzz translates as “hoes”, and according to middle school teacher Mr Lindsay while some use it as a insult for a group of girls, others don’t fully understand its derogatory nature. Some are also saying huzz to describe their crush making its meaning even muddier.
Bruzz is a variation on the theme and used to describe multiple men or bros.
Gruzz refers to old people, which for tweens means anyone legally…
